Tuesday of the Fifth Week of Easter
Today’s psalm response captures the intimacy and friendship that Jesus calls us to: “Your friends make known, O Lord, the glorious splendor of your kingdom”. In the Easter season the scriptures reveal Jesus’ intimate relationship with his Father that he shares with the disciples and all followers. He is repeatedly inviting us into this friendship with himself, and calls us to share from that caring love with all believers - in meeting the needs of the other and in the mission of sharing the good news of God’s love. The disciples are commissioned as friends to go out.
Today is a good day to pause and reflect on our relationship with God as a friendship, and ponder how we might deepen in our journey - by revealing more of the concerns of our heart and mind to God, and taking time to listen to the caring response of love being poured out to us. Where do I hold back? How can I share more of my fears? How can I pray for courage and wisdom to reach out and share the gift of such friendship with all people around me who need to know that love and care. How do I extend myself in the way that Jesus and the apostles did? We are promised the fruits of the spirit as we live in this great gift of love and a deep peace, not as the world gives. May we deepen in our trust of this promise and boldly share words of hope and peace.
