Tuesday of the Second Week in Advent
Today’s readings are full of hope. Each image is like a twinkle-light to brighten our grey days, calling us to trust and proclaim our God of tenderness and compassion. Our God seeks us out, forgives us, and brings new life. The images are meant to be savored slowly, a bit at a time. A helpful practice is to take a line or two at a time; and to ponder and steep ourselves in them, so that hope can permeate our entire being.
Today we also remember St.Juan Diego, the first saint of the Americas, to whom our Lady of Guadalupe appeared. St. Juan Diego is a reminder that God chooses the humble and lowly as important messengers to those who hold power. Mary might invite each of us to bear her message of hope and promise, just as St. Juan Diego conveyed it to the Bishop. This week is a wonderful time to re-read the story of St. Juan Diego and to be inspired by his courage as well as Mary’s gift of companionship to each of us. One of the websites telling his story is here: https://hallow.com/saints/
May we be inspired by the words of hope and welcome the gift of Our Lady of Guadalupe, patroness of the Americas and a symbol of faith and cultural unity who companions the marginalized. May we extend her welcoming spirit to all.
