Tuesday of the Sixteenth Week in Ordinary Time

Scripture Readings

“God will cast our sins into the depths of the sea.”  It’s beautiful, isn’t it?  Yet today, many of us are often unaware of our sins.  We may feel inadequate or be aware of our weakness, but we are quick to forget our sins.  If we don’t know our sinfulness, it will continue to weigh us down in secret.   Our Lord offers something better.  The Spirit can cast light upon our sins, so that Jesus can free us from them.  A good examination of conscience isn’t one that makes us feel small or pathetic; it is one that opens us to God’s uplifting, cleansing Love.

But sin breaks down our relationship with the Trinity.  The weight of broken relationships can haunt us for a lifetime.  It doesn’t have to be this way.  Disappointment and sin are part of our human condition.  Jesus tells us what to do about it!  God shows us over and over again.  Forgive.  Love through the brokenness.  We must accept the reality that we sin; it’s okay to admit we are wrong!  We can confidently approach our Lord, asking for mercy and forgiveness, because we know that the power of Christ’s love can overcome what we have done.

Family is permanent.  Disagreements may cause friction, but my brother is my brother no matter what.  God’s love is even stronger.  Let us confidently approach God Our Father, lamenting our faults and shedding our burdens as we join our family at the table.
