Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross

Scripture Readings

Today is the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. The moment I turned to the readings for today, I felt a profound sense of awe. This Feast Day brings me to my knees. Humbled and overwhelmed by gratitude, I simply desire to pray at the foot of the Cross. I invite you into that space with me.

As I contemplated writing this reflection, I felt speechless. I realized that rather than reading my words, we each need time to behold and lift high the Cross of Christ. I encourage you to take time today – whether a few moments or long – to sit with Jesus and behold his Cross. You might position yourself in front of a Crucifix or if you’re able, go and pray in front of the Blessed Sacrament. In whatever way you’re able, behold the Cross, exalt the Cross, and worship the Crucified One. Receive his love and return it back to him.

Here are just a few prompts that might get you started. Allow the Holy Spirit to guide your prayer.

Behold Love himself – Extravagant, Unconditional, Limitless, Abundant, Eternal . . .
Behold the Lamb of God
Behold the Suffering Servant
Behold the Savior of the World
Behold Mercy
Behold Grace
Behold Forgiveness
Behold our Healer
Behold . . .

Often worship music helps to usher us into the presence of God and stimulates our prayer. As I was preparing to write this reflection, the song “Worthy is the Lamb” flooded my heart. You can find one version of it here.

As you approach the Cross today, may Divine Love, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit fill, flood, and free you. Hallelujah!
