Scripture Readings

I have always liked the line from the first reading from Isaiah that states, “Is it not enough for you to weary men, must you also weary my God?” I can only imagine how often God is exasperated and weary by our lack of faith.  If only we would just do what God is telling us to do; if only we would ask and expect the impossible; then perhaps we would not weary God so much.

Today’s Gospel tells us how great our Lord is, and how the impossible can in fact be possible with Him.  Let us not weary God but rather adopt the faith and response of Mary and Elizabeth.  Each woman is blessed with the impossible; a child conceived by the Holy Spirit, a child conceived at an age beyond child bearing years.  These blessings are only impossible in human terms; but with God “nothing will be impossible.”  Do you have hopes that you hesitate to bring to God because they seem impossible?  Do not be like Ahaz who says “I will not ask!”  Ask! God wants us to ask and wait expectantly for Him to work in our lives.
