Christmas Weekday

Scripture Readings

It is my favorite time of year because we get to spend time with family.  It is great hearing old stories, making new ones and keeping traditions alive.  I especially appreciate getting to eat meals with family and friends.  Eating with my children recently, I got more than I wanted to hear.  I was singing a Christmas song quietly.  They asked why I always look so sad while singing, even at Church.  Of course, I was unprepared to hear the truth.

For all of us, there are people in our lives who are truth-tellers.  Sometimes they are the ones that remind us that we are the children of a God who loves us and that in him we find our hope.  Sometimes our truth-tellers are like John the Baptist.  They point us toward Jesus and remind us of the power He can have in our life.

The fact that Jesus has power is not always obvious.  Christmas season is an especially poignant time for recognizing God’s power.  It is in this holy season that God’s becomes one with us through the power of the Incarnation.  Jesus, the vulnerable child, who Mary delivered, came to deliver us.  God was willing to intervene in the history of the world.

Jesus came to testify to the one who sent Him.  We too are called testify to the God who saves us.  We do this best when we point our whole lives toward Christ.

'Loving God, You are the Light in our darkness.  Continue to shine in and through us, so that the light of Christ points all whom we encounter, to the one who lives and reigns one God now and forever. Amen."
