Scripture Readings

Every one to whom much is given, much will be required.  Let us think for a moment of the countless blessing we have received during our lives.  Many of them we know quite well.  Many, many others are unknown to us.  For each of our lives are filled with blessings.  Happiness, family, friendships, people who minister to us, and this does not even include our temporal blessings.  Let us consider today the question of whether our life is a generous response to all the good things God has granted us.

Today’s parable speaks of an irresponsible servant who has little appreciation for God’s generosity.  He seems to excuse his behavior because of the masters delayed arrival.  It is like any of us saying, as long as I don’t get caught then our imprudent actions are excusable.  It is as if our not getting caught meant that our level of responsibility was lessened.  We are reminded today that actions, prudent or imprudent, have an impact.

It is with this understanding that we can realize our obligation to impact the community in a positive way.  In recognizing that Lord has already arrived and in our midst, our lives will change.  This awareness will allow us to encounter Christ is in each and every person we meet.  It is in responding generously to God’s abundant blessings for us, that others can encounter Christ in us.

“Loving God, You have bestowed Your blessings upon us more abundantly than we know.  Your generosity has empowered us to be faithful stewards.  Strengthen our dedication to the responsibilities of our discipleship.  Then all the ways we think, talk and act can build the Body of Christ on earth as it is in heaven. Pax Vobiscum.
