Scripture Readings

There is an old saying that for me captures the tenacity and intentionality that is demanded of us as disciples; if we were “If you were put on trial for being a Christian, would there be enough evidence in your daily life to convict you?”

Today a friend of mine was given the wisdom to listen to another person’s pain.  This act of listening became an action of Christ.  It is amazing to me how things like listening genuinely and acting compassionately can make the Lord’s presence known in profound ways.  These actions can set people free from the chains that bind them.  In reflecting Christ in all that we say and do, we can raise up both ourselves and others.  Not only this, but when we reflect Christ we can draw the church and the community ever closer to the Kingdom of God

Living like Christ may seem straight forward but today’s readings remind us of the complexity of staying faithful to the truth.  In the first reading, Daniel is called upon to interpret a message which has mysteriously appeared on a palace wall of the Babylonian King.  Daniel tells the King the message is in response to his family’s evil actions.  Daniel fearlessly made clear that the days of Belshazzar’s kingdoms were numbered.

Is Daniel’s fearlessness the same fortitude with which we live?  Do we glorify the Lord with our lives?  Or does many of our actions profane the Lord?

“Holy Spirit you are our wisdom sent from heaven, enkindle in us the fire of Your Love, so that Christ is the source of all we say and do.  Spirit of wisdom give us words and actions so that our lives give glory and eternal praise to You.  Amen!
