Wednesday of the Fifteenth Week in Ordinary Time
When was the last time you have been stopped in your tracks by something you have seen or heard? When it happens, it is unexpected and often catches you completely off guard. Recently, I was at a youth ministry function where one of the young person shared something so profound that it stopped most who heard it in their tracks. The message revealed emotions without being emotional. Also, it revealed conversion in an unexpectedly simple way. The young person described how the Lord snuck up from behind, tapped on their shoulder and said, “Are you looking for me?” Here it was that God was in their midst of the ministry they were doing, yet it took time to become aware of God’s presence.
To see the light bulb go on in this young person was amazing. They had realized that God could be found in a group of people committed to simple living, in helping with their garden and in listening to the community’s advocacy for peace. His sharing revealed God to all of us who heard him. Imagine how the events and people in our life might be calling us to realize the presence of Christ.
Certainly Moses never expected to find God while he was out tending sheep and that was where God called to him. It was there that Moses came to recognize God with a sense of wonder and awe. When God calls out to us do we recognize that which is being revealed? How do we approach God’s powerful presence? Do we approach others with the same reverence which we offer God?
Lord, continue to reveal Yourself to us in ways that are unexpected. Help us to have a childlike faith so that our hearts expect You to be revealed everywhere we look. Then we will be ready to live and honor You in both this world and the next. Amen!
