Christmas Weekday
Today's Mass Readings
Since we have just celebrated Christmas, today’s reading (Hebrews 2: 14-18), is a great explication of the significance of the incarnation of Jesus. Three reasons are given: 1. “that through death (Jesus’ death) he might destroy the one who has the power of death…” (the Devil and the death he caused for us); 2. “that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest before God to expiate the sins of the people” and 3. “because he himself was tested through what he suffered, he is able to help those who are being tested.
In brief, Jesus came as a human person so that he could help us through life, forgive us our sins, and lead us to eternal life. This reading should inspire in us, tremendous confidence in God. Let us bring the difficulties of life before Jesus and he will help us. Let us bring our sins before God and he will have mercy on us. Let us bring our life before Jesus and he will save us.
In a moment of silence, let us right now make a spontaneous act of faith.
